New Gadget: Mylo

Wahai para gadgetter, ada kabar baru nih: Sony meluncurkan gadget Wi-Fi untuk pengguna yang tak mau putus dengan Internet.
Gadget yang seukuran PlayStation Portable (PSP) itu diberi nama Mylo, kependekan dari My Life Online. Sony berharap, dengan makin maraknya jaringan nirkabel (wireless fidelity/Wi-Fi) di kampus-kampus, ruang publik, dan di dalam rumah, Mylo menjadi pilihan bagi mereka yang tak bisa terputus dengan Internet, asal terdapat akses Wi-Fi 802.11b.
Mylo diperkirakan mulai tersedia hanya di toko online Sony Amerika Serikat, September mendatang. Harga jualnya sekitar US$ 350 (sekitar Rp 3,2 juta). Menurut analis pasar, ini merupakan produk pertama dari jenis ini yang menggunakan jaringan nirkabel Wi-Fi. Mylo bukan ponsel, dan tak dikenai biaya langganan bulanan. Kalau ingin membuat panggilan telepon, mesti menggunakan fitur telepon via Internet (voice over Internet protocol).
Begitu juga jika mau berkirim surat elektronik pakai saja e-mail yang berbasis web. Tentu saja tidak bisa mendukung program e-mail perusahaan. Memang Mylo disasarkan Sony untuk pasar orang muda berusia 18-24 tahun.
Untuk memberi fitur-fitur komunikasi berbasis Internet yang andal, Sony bermitra dengan Yahoo Inc. dan Google untuk layanan pesan instan. Juga dalam penjajakan kerja sama dengan Time Warner Inc., penyedia pesan instan terkemuka America Online. Untuk layanan telepon via Internet, Sony menggandeng eBay Inc., pemilik layanan VoIP Skype.
Mylo tak sekadar personal communicator, tapi juga pemutar media. Ia dapat memainkan musik digital (format MP3, ATRAC, dan WMA). Selain itu, ia dapat menyimpan serta menayangkan foto (JPEG) dan video (MPEG 4) yang ada di memori flash berkapasitas satu gigabitanya atau kartu Memory Stick yang dijual terpisah. Layar Mylo berupa layar kristal cair berwarna dengan resolusi 320 x 240 piksel dan berukuran diagonal 2,4 inci.
